I
want my own personal entrance music. A killer anthem that kicks on
whenever I walk into a room. Something that lets people know I’ve
arrived.
Sadly,
my corner deli doesn’t share my dream, and has officially banned me
from blasting Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” on my boom box every time I walk
in to buy a gallon of milk. Fascists.
Thankfully, according to TechCrunch, the folks behind the Rockbot smartphone app
seem to share my enthusiasm for personal theme songs. The company has
added a new feature called Anthem to the service that automatically adds
your favorite songs to a bar or restaurant’s jukebox playlist as soon
as you walk in. Step into the club, the DJ’s playing your song (if there
are no songs queued ahead of you, I guess).
Currently
available in bars and restaurants around the country, the Anthem
feature works with Bluetooth beacons, small low-powered devices that can
interact with your smartphone and accomplish simple automated
tasks. Once you’ve given the app permission to interact with the
beacons, they can automatically detect whenever you walk into the
building and instantly add your preselected favorite songs to the
jukebox’s playlist.
